Home to the big three automakers — General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. — Michigan is driving the car industry into the future. Thanks in part to aggressive legislation and significant VC funding, Michigan ranks No. 1 in the nation in connected and automated vehicle projects. The birthplace of the automobile also makes much more than cars. The state’s 3,288 miles of freshwater coastline (the longest of any state), healthy job market, and relatively low cost of living is attracting large numbers of young professionals and makers of all stripes, from craft beer brewers to fashion designers. Detroit had the third largest increase in young people (ages 25-29) in the country in 2017. More recently, the Detroit Metro jumped 24 spots all the way to rank No. 2 on realtor.com's March 2018 International Demand Report, which examines metros that get the most interest from international users. Roofstock currently operates in the Detroit investment property market.
