Area Development magazine consistently ranks South Carolina as one of the top five states to do business in the nation, and South Carolina ranks No. 24 on Wallet Hub's 2017 list of "Best State Economies." In December 2017, the state's main daily newspaper reported that job creation is expected to climb by about 2.1 percent in 2018, driven by the manufacturing and professional and business services sectors. South Carolina is projected to gain nearly 400,000 new residents and surpass 5 million by 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
